TE7x -> 2jzge :D

Post by EvilCerealBoX »

As requested, I'm gonna be doing a build thread. It will be lacking pics for now though while I wait for my friend to get me the pics. I'll try and keep all the parts I use listed on this thread and what I do (obviously).

1981 SR-5 hatch
2jzge from a Lexus sc300 (not sure what year)
-Baby Supras
-W58
-Aristo front oil sump
-2jzge 5sp (ECU Supra)
-2jzge engine harness uncut (Supra)
-sparco hoodpins
-2jzge to w58 bellhousing
-GTS fuel tank and fuel pump bracket
-944 radiator
-w58/MK4 slave cylinder (yes it makes a difference in which supra it came from)
-supra TT denso fuel pump
-W58 Transmission Output Shaft Seal
-Pressure Plate Bolt Set W58
-W58 Clutch Hose MK3
-Illegal garage clutch kit
-SC300 MAF
-sc300 stock flywheel
-timing belt (gates/carquest)
-accessory belt (gates/carquest)
-Spark plug wires (Spark Transfer International)
-TB Idler pulley
-TB tensioner
-thermostat
-Spark plugs (denso)
-Cap (denso)
-Rotor
-Valve Cover gaskets (felpro)
-WRX fuel filter
-Spray paint! Woo
-Stove Bright Spray Paint specifically for exhaust manifolds PERFECT!

I originally was going to do a 3sgte about 5 years ago which didn't pan out. I had a w58 I bought for that swap left over sitting in my garage. Fast forward to a year ago I find someone trying to get rid of a 2jzge with auto tranny for cheap. I couldn't pass it up. Especially after I saw the build of a 1jz in an AE71 (the yellow one). Bought some similar parts and here I am now. Doing this swap.

June 17,2011
-auto tranny/flex plate/torque converter removed
-swapped the w58 bellhousing from the 7m's to the 2jz's

June 18, 2011
-got the motor on a mount
-accessory belt removed (attempting to do timing chain)
-mid-sump oil pan removed and replaced with front sump oil pan/pick up (snapped one screw putting the pan on :( )
-started taking stuff apart on the corolla engine bay

June 19,2011
Break - tired from 100+ degree weather all the time.

Things are actually progressing a lot slower than I've been wanting.

June 20, 2011
-Timing belt/TB tensioner/TB idler pulley replaced with new
-block off plate for turbo return line in oil pan installed
-new accessory belt installed
-started removing engine harness
-plugs/plug wires/cap/rotor bad-removed
-cleaning out rust from spark plug galley
-removing old/brittle/broken vaccum and coolant lines
-removed throttle body and EGR for cleaning
-installed new thermostat

Starting to think I'm not gonna make my dead line because of how much I want/need to prep/bring back to life this motor before shoving it into a car with hardly any room to work with.

June 21, 2011
-removed old wiring harness/installed "new" one
-Removed motor mounts
-Pondered what sensors and connecters would work with the supra harness (spent long time on this one >_<)
-Was sure that I did more but I can't remember

June 22, 2011
-Installed new cap and rotor
-Removed radiator from Corolla
-Sanded and filled in holes in valve covers with JB weld :D
-uninstalled "new"/supra wiring harness to tear it apart to it's barebones
-Removed EGR vacuum lines completely

*more pics further down

June 23, 2011
-painted valve covers blue
-reinstalled valve covers
-installed new spark plug wires
-did some rust body work on the corolla in the well where the spare is kept and on the driver side rear fender. (using aluminum cans (to fill the holes), JB weld, rust coverter, and krazy glue.)
-painted/rust converted bolt heads with rust on them
-removed the exhaust manifolds to be cleaned up and painted

June 30, 2011
-Removed exhaust completely from corolla
-front half of driveshaft is removed (rear shaft does not want to come undone from diff)
-painted 2jz exhaust manifolds (Stove bright)
-removed castle nuts from steering rack (didn't work)

July 2, 2011
-3tc and tranny out of corolla Via subframe

I'm getting my camera back today when I drive up to start working on the rolla today. Hopefully I'll have some pics tonight. Sorry, I'm usually better about pics. I fail lately though. =/

I understand. I have the pics and I will upload them in the morning.

Edit: Well I was going to post pics but apparently photobucket doesn't want to upload correctly. :(

Look at you man! Pics are raining down everywhere you go!

That timing belt tensioner looks awfully like the Black Top 20v tensioner.

It's amazing what a little paint will do.

And amazing what aluminum cans, JB weld, and krazy glue can do. Hooray for being cheap!

Negative - haven't got that far. I have to source more parts (ugh). So this is going to take much longer than I wanted. =(

-Decided it'd be best to remove the p/s pump and a/c since I'm not using either (now I gotta figure out what accessory belt will work that's significantly shorter)
-Did final prep to the engine (minus tranny hook up) for mocking the motor finally.
-waiting on parts now >_<
