Ok so update,to sum up the old girl just died on me.
Image

I was lucky that it happened like not even an 1/8th mile from my work so I got away with a cheap tow. My first thoughts was the dizzy has finally gone out. The oil seal inside had blown out and I knew it was flinging oil everywhere. So the next day playing around with it I had also found my water pump to be leaking, and also that my exhaust gasket had blown out on 1,2, and 3. So after like two weeks of waiting on parts, waiting on time to work on her, and troubles I had with the water pump she is back up running. However I did have a problem with the timing when I first got here running again. I'll get to that later.

First, the water pump. After playing with gaskets and a lot of pookie (aka RTV) I found my original problem.

Lucky for me I have extra water pumps so I put my oem toyota wp on with new gaskets and a lot of pookie. So far we good.

Now on to the dizzy, here's where it gets interesting. The set up I am running is a mr2 dizzy wired to a MSD 6AL. I bought it as this set up so I didnt know much about how it was set up. After cutting apart the wire harness I found it a rather simple set up. Thank god. Now I got a new dizzy (thanks Mckenney) and had to wire it up to the MSD box. Now here I made a change to the harness, I know I beat the crap out of my car and that I will have to replace the dizzy again ( I like high revs and I dont have a rev limiter). With a stock new dizzy you get two harness connectors, a male and a female. Lucky enough they both fit each other. The MSD only needs the signal from the cam sensor (red and white wires) where the other connector is an old toyota diag tool for timing (green and black wires). I cut the connector off and wired them to the harness that came with the set up to the MSD box. Boom a plug and play msd dizzy set up!

2nd issue I found with the MR2 dizzy. At the end of the shaft there is a small nub that hits the cam before fully setting into place. A quick trip to the grinder and problem is solved.

Would it not have been possible to swap the distributor gear from the OEM to the MR2 rather than grinding it?

Gambler, yes but grinding one down is easier than swapping that gear.

Yea swapping the gear in a nutshell is drilling out the old rivets on both shafts then rivet the new gear on, or 20 seconds on a grinder and you're done.

Lazy wins there.

I usually get bogged down on projects only because I can't think outside the box of this type of issues. Good job.

oddly enough this is where lazyness helped me. Plus I like to think this is where playing with legos helped me.
