Mk1 MR2 87car/88 motor wiring harness question

Post by mr2rudy »

My mr2 is an 87. I found a 4A-GE from an 88 MR2. Just needing to know if the harness in the car will work with the new motor or do I need to get a harness from an 88? Anything else that is different that I may need? Thanks in advance for answers/advice. mr2rudy@gmail.com

It should. I used a GTS corolla harness on an 85 MR2 4age. I can't see why it wouldn't work with 1 year difference between the two mr2's. lets say in theory it shouldn't be any different. haha. Do you have both of them? Or is one for sale that you want to buy, and want to know if it'll work before you buy it type of thing. If that's the case take pictures and then take them with you, and compare the two. 4age to 4age they should be identical, unless there was some big change between the years.

yea. If there's any differences just swap what you have onto the new engine. All those parts are interchangeable. As long as you have a complete engine for that car... there shouldn't be any issue. Only thing I can see being an issue if it's a bluetop vs a redtop. That I don't know much about. but Bluetop to bluetop it's all swappable.

it will work. you may need to use your original injectors and maybe your intake mani since the wiring plugs might be different. over all if you find something that doesnt plug in electrically rob it from your old motor.
