Transmission leaks after new seals

Post by BlackStar »

You read that right. My transmission is leaking after putting in new front and rear seals. Guess where it was leaking? The old seals where crumbling apart when i first took out the transmission, so it was logical to replace them. After doing so, i come back and see a pool for gear oil under the car(bell housing and rear output shaft respectively).

WTF? I am using valvoline durablend fluid, so its synthetic. Not a good choice? Am I missing something? The trans currently is empty(theoretically). Do I need to just put new fluid in for the seals to seat/lubricate?

I put on a new cam seal once that kept leaking. on inspection of the seal i found the spring had come off the rubber of the seal. I put that back on and reinstalled the seal and it was all good. are you sure its the tranny? you do have a rear main in the same place.

the seals should seal on installation. just put a light coat of oil on it and you should be good to go.

And make sure everything is nice and clean before the new seals go in.
