Dropping the transmission in the 83

Post by ChadDavis »

It is my first time dropping a tranny bymyself i have currently removed one of the crossmembers supporting the tranny, drained the transmission fluid, disconnected the slave cylinder. heres the first issue the slave cylinder thick pin thats connected to the fork on the left side of the tranny is stuck extended. What i mean by that is i pressed the clutch and the pin pushed its self out and i cant get it back in. I hope thats specific enough. I started undoing the tranny bolts in a pattern I didnt back them all the way out just to get loose. I know im missing some stuff but i only have the tools to do it not really the experience but i cant afford to take it to a shop or get it towed

it should just slide back in with a little fluid for lube if its binding on the rubber.

no, pull your driveshaft , undo your shifter , undo the sensors, cables and starter. support trans, remove crossmeber to frame bolts then undo the trans to motor bolts slide the trans back with the jack being carefull not to damage the clutch or drop the trans.

speedo.

battery cables are the first to go when doing ANYTHING. if you left these on your about to get a suprise when you pull the starter.
