I've seen welded diffrentials break, I've seen axels get broken from spool's. I've never seen a LSD in a corolla do anything except explode from worn out bearings giving up the fight. The LSD in the gt-s is not very strong so it offsets the low powered rev loving 4age. Not to mention all of the strength plates and welds will add to the rotational mass of the drivetrain, heck who knows it may cause oil starvation to certain bearings. If you were putting down 150whp+ I would be saying go for a spool and get extra axels ready. Having a true lsd/welded/spool won't make you a better drifter if you can't drift to begin with, they will only make you more of a handicaped driver.

Good luck finding a MK1 supra rearend, I call junkyard across the USA bi-weekly looking for one. I still think a Ford 8.8'' shortened with a full aluminum housing is the way to go. Beefy axels, LSD choices, less weight.

oh, man not this discussion again. can we please refrain from trying to regurgitate supposed old "war" stories of races from "a long time ago in a galaxy far, far away..."? i don't know of any cliff someone is heading for the edge of that everyone has to keep trying to post "keep out" "danger" "cliff" signs.

if you're welded and break an axle, oh well, it was an inexpensive mod. find another axle or save up for an lsd and still go find yourself another axle. if you have an lsd...pat yourself on the back and act like some sort of drift/race expert and hold your nose up high as you walk past the lower class, uneducated, "can't be as good as you because they have welded diffs", know nothings.

you guys can sit around and smack your gums on the porch with your walkers flexing your mechanical know-how puny muscles at each other. i'm not going to get involved in another one of these pointless back&forths.

Never said welded style such as spools are bad. I just think you need more power than 88whp in a ae86. If a welded gets you by than go for it, I'll still be there to help you push/pull your car when an axel breaks.

If you can't drift open, you need more power, if you already have power or don't need more power and you can't... than you need to learn how to drift.

i do at some spot but i really don't wanna get caught cus i don't even have a permit yet. and its not when an axel brakes its IF an axel brakes.

yeah and rick has been driving his dd on the street with a welded diff for how long now? have you yourself had a welded diff? when i ask numerous people who have welded diffs and have had them for along time and all i get back is that its good and it never messed up and then a bunch of people saying oh well its gonna f-bomb up your rear end and all this bs who haven't even done it im obviously going to weld it. plus i dont wanna pay money on rebuilds weather i have a lsd or welded differential same shit to me i wont care about tire wear or anything because im going to smoke the shit out of my tires either way. if it does brake an axel oh well i will know for a fact that welded diffs f-bomb up axels and have had first hand experience rather than pass down a bunch of bs.
rick has also broken axels with his welded but thats besides the point. I have not personally owned a car with a welded but I have driven several. How many cars have you drivin with welded diffs? MY point is there is no need to talk shit about the l.s.d. that you have in your car right now If you cant drift with that then welded is not going to help you its only going to make you suck more at driving. I have won events made it to proam placed in the top 4 against vetrans to the sport of drifting and I did it all with 100hp and a stock l.s.d. that has never been rebuilt and one wheel wonders on a regular basis. Seriously you need to learn how to take advice from more than one person. How many people are there that drift COROLLAS in houston with welded diffs? I know of rick and rob ricks holds up well but has broken axels and robs broke axels also. so dont tell me I dont know about it I dont care what you do to your car Im just trying to explain why not all people weld diffs and that if you cant drift without a welded diff what makes you think thats all going to change once you weld it?

yeah i have driven cars with welded diffs before and i just like the feeling of it being locked all the time thats all im not saying lsd is shit i just like the feeling of having it more instant im not putting it in thinking its going to make me drift or some shit im putting it in because i like how it feels locked all the time during a drift rather than an lsd.

but lsd is cool.....at times <a href="http://s233.photobucket.com/albums/ee12 ... nt=lsd.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i233.photobucket.com/albums/ee12 ... 22/lsd.jpg" border="0" alt="LSD"></a>

Have you driven Corolla's like yours with welded? Being locked all the time is for cars with something called power. Welded will make your ae86 slower, will cause you to make weaker drifts, and increase the chance of you breaking something. But go for welded because you like the "feeling". If welded was that great LSD's would be worthless lol.

lsd is better in the long run and a little more forgiving on the axles. i've driven on both lsd and welded and much prefer the lsd, but it is your choice
