Car dies after warming up and won't restart

Post by Law »

Car: 86 Corolla GTS w/ blue top 16V

Car hasn't really been driven for a year. Just started up every few weeks or so and moved around the driveway.

I just replaced the battery. Now, whenever I start the car, it will die after it is warmed up and it won't restart until it cools down. Engine turns fine. Fuel pump is still working.

That's the best detail that I can give. Any ideas?

Thanks in advance.

tried replacing the coil. Problem still remains. Car starts but still dies after warming up. After it dies, there is no longer any spark from the coil until the car cools back down.

Any other ideas? :?

i pulled a working coil and ignition control module off a working corolla gts. ignition control module and coil should be fine.

are u saying it's overheating. is it supposed to shut off or does it shutting off indicate something is wrong?

D'oh. Lost in my frustration I threw it down the gutter. Will a soda can suffice? They kind of look the same. I'll even get you a Coke Zero so that it matches in color.

j/p

I'll call you some time today to see when I can drop it off.

I'm confused. I already swapped my coil out for a working one from another car and I'm still experiencing the same problem. I haven't swapped the dizzy yet, but wouldn't my main question in trouble shooting be why i'm not gettng spark from a perfectly working coil?
