compression numbers

Post by aj.hudson »

Got a blacktop, importer has video of it making around 180psi I know he has dumped ATF in the cyls. I got the motor days later and immediately did a compression test. While doing a compression test I am getting readings of around 120psi not sure how much atf still in cylinders but it's there...
These are all on a cold motor uninstalled.. Manual states good is above 193 and min is 156...
Should I expect the compression to rise to an acceptable level when "warm"?
Or should I not risk installing it (mr2 so not fun) and just re ring it?

Pull the pistons and check the cylinders for out of round conditions. If all is well, new bearings and rings.

Did a leak down test and it failed... Plugged the exhaust ports where it was leaking past the valves and it failed a bit less but still failed... Rings are done. Bores look good though...oem Std rings on order..
