20v bt wont rev past 3k?

so i pulled the 20v bt out of ura's old car before i started to part it out. i had plans on throwing the engine in my wifes prizm , but i got the offer on it to trade for the hatch.

anyway , the guy puts it in , gets it fired up , and now it wont rev past 3k. never had this problem in my car. now i think he thinks that i intentionally traded him an engine with a bad ecu.....thats not the case. there was not a thing wrong with this engine when i pulled, like stated i had the intentions of putting it in my own cars.....

so what will cause the bt to only rev to 3k?

cam and crank angle sensors.sounds more like an ignitor issue. does it idle and roll up to 3000rpms clean?

check the SPD or the STA wires? heard those are problems with low rev cuts.

Really, when you buy a motor second hand especially from an individual, you have to know there's a risk of it being DOA unless you know the person well enough to trust 'em. Compression test is important and wiring, well, it's kind of up in the air unless you're fast and thorough in checking that everything's there. 4AG items are old even with 20v items. Unless he's a master mechanic, he should troubleshoot thoroughly first before he points fingers. Now he's guilting you into getting a 20v project running when he can't?

Nah, Justin picked up Rob's BT 20V that he's been hanging on to for like 4years. Then got it in the car and up and running in 18 hours...hehe.

lmao.....

the bad thing is ive told the kid to check all the grounds , and he says he has , but he just wants to pay me $100 to come over and get it running. he lives 1.5 hours away, and currently i dont have the time to do this with my own projects going on. im a good business man , i practice good morals. i would never sell anything faulty to anyone, just because its unprofessional, and down right wrong. like i said before, i had plans on putting this engine and setup in one of my own cars.

sighs...........

Make sure the ignition confirmation wire is connected properly with continuity. I was getting the same issue with a swap using COPs instead of the dist. It was the confirmation ignition wire hooked up to all 4 COPs rather than just 1 that was causing the problem. Also, he may want to make sure the coil is properly grounded to the chassis.
