4age 16v w/weber 45 sidedraft carbs fuel set up questions.

Post by djugly »

Ok im in the process of installing my fuel set up and im planning on running parallel fuel set up on the weber carbs where they will each have there own fuel line. My question is do i need to run a fuel return?

No fuel return unless you run the Aeromotive low pressure bypass type fpr. You should not run a return with the Holley low pressure fpr. Lines should be no smaller than 3/8" in both applications.

Even still, I would NOT run a return setup with carb'd 4AGs. Totally unnecessary and more trouble and a little more money than it's worth.

Now will you be running the timing advance unit with it or locked out timing?

Im running the msd 6al with the msd blaster coil and 8980 timing computer. Is there a timing diy write up? what should my goal be as far as the set timing to run to start off with?

IIRC, you set full timing advance and the timing "computer" retards it by 20 degrees. So try it first with your timing locked at 36. If you get knock take it back to 35-34. Is this a smallport or largeport?

Im really not sure how can i tell the difference between small and large port? Also is there a diagram on how to set up the msd 6al with the 8980 timing computer? I found the diagram without the timing computer.

Ok a little update i i got the correct wire going to the starter now. So i got the car cranking up and it'll semi start than just when it sounds like its going to be alive it kind of bogs down. Unsure where i should begin to try and start the car.

Check fuel pressure.

What's the condition of those carbs - new, used or rebuilt used?

they're pretty old looking lol i bought my 4age with them on there. The car stays on when i cover two of the carb velocity stacks. I got the fuel pressure set at a little over 4psi. Im thinking i should just rebuild both carbs?

Yeah, those carbs should be rebuilt. Before you pull 'em, check compression across all your cyls.
