Idle surge

Post by McKenney »

So I swapped motors 2 wks ago and that motor failed on me, had to put mine back in. I swapped intakes off the new motor because it was cleaner than mine, no carbon buildup. I deleted the egr and all the corresponding bs that goes with it. Power steering and ac deleted too. I have NO vacuum leaks but the car surges at idle like a Honda with a bad idle air control valve. This intake was on the new motor with the same throttle body and iac and didn't do this. I have all the same vacuum lines hooked up as I did with the initial motor swap. Timing is set at 8 degrees advanced initial, the same as I have always run and had no issues before now.

List of changes from pre motor swap

Header
Ac, ps and egr deleted(with all corresponding vacuum lines either capped or removed, with the exception of the ac idle up that's still wired up and vacuum lines hooked like they were stock)
complete intake w tvis swapped over with new gaskets
reverse lights re-wired up
oxygen sensor relocated and re-wired(TRD header puts it under floorpan)
all grounds and wire connections solid and secured

This is the same motor I have run since I bought the car 2 1/2 years ago. Any ideas would be appreciated.

Try changing the coolant and/or bleeding it really well. Air in the cooling system has been known to cause what is called "air lock" giving improper temp readings for the ecu to manage things.

Vacuum leak, the vacuum hose routing at the throttle body when deleting P/S and the VSV, etc...

Holes in the plastic intake plenum.

Bad AFM

Clogged idle air port at the throttle body.

Blocked coolant passages to the Aux. Air Valve at the throttle body???

Hole in the throttle body gasket?

Hole in the intake manifold gasket?

Tvis vacuum lines not connected?

TPS mis-adjusted? You should be able to unplug it while running and see if it stops bouncing then. If it does then you have to adjust it.

all vacuum lines routed properly or capped
NEW afm
Clean tb
no blocks in coolant passages and all new hoses.

still air in the coolant system. the idle valve is coolant controlled if theres any air in it itwill continue to do this. rivan had the same issue with his. look for his build thread. you can find him on ccc.com

Ah Ha! It WAS the TPS! So you'll be in the "LEHBIN" 8/6 then, yes?
