Did a little trim work...nothing special

Post by GamblerZ »

So, I decided to make a little productive use of my time as I was watching the Dallas Cowboys and the Detroit Lions this afternoon. I pulled the damaged trim from the c-pillar to see whether there was any chance to straighten it at all. I pulled out my jewelers hammer, regular hammer, the wife's bamboo cutting board (didn't tell her), and a combination square/round punch chisel. I slowly tapped everything out as to not leave any impressions from the punch in the thin metal and the trim began to straighten itself out. With a mild sanding it will look pretty decent. Unfortunately, the trim has a lip edge that has been created from the plastic/rubber overcoating that was married to the trim which probably cannot be manually reproduced.

This is as far as a I got before I decided to take a nap. LOL

The area that is still marred is the rubber coating material. The coating can be sanded off and be roughly recreated using smooth bed liner paint. However, the pliable lip edges are virtually impossible to recreate.

I had considered brazing, but the trim material is just too thin. I think we are just going to have to find a suitable replacement for it.

No, it is the rear quarter driver side trim piece on the c-pillar.
